August 2008 Archives

On Monday, September 15, we're going to fire up the Jazz Workshop again.  We'll meet from 6:00 until 8:00, and make a plan for the fall.

Here's a little video that I'd like to share of me playing with a little trumpeter.  Note her complete lack of inhibition, and how closely she listens and watches.  She, without any prior knowledge of jazz practices, is hanging in there with trading fours.  Okay, so the notes aren't quite there, but she plays with such reckless abandon, and has some serious phrasing going on.  After the session, I wondered who learned more, ALG or me.

We had a great night at Steve's Guitars in Carbondale, CO, on Tuesday this week.  Larry Luchowski played piano, Mark Gray played bass, Bob Levey played drums, and I played trumpet.  The time was good.  When the time is good, the music, in general, follows suit.  And the music, in general, was good.  Larry is leaving town for awhile this week, so we were delighted to get one more night in with him.  He's been a catalyst for our group's improvement.  We'll be looking forward to his return.  Unfortunately, I didn't get anything recorded that night, so we'll just have commit the good vibes to memory.
